CHĀNDOGYA UPANISHAD · 1.10.4

न स्विद् एते ऽप्य् उच्छिष्टा इति ।
न वा अजीविष्यम् इमान् अखादन्न् इति होवाच ।
कामो म उदपानम् इति ॥

na svid ete ’py ucchiṣṭā iti ।
na vā ajīviṣyam imān akhādann iti hovāca ।
kāmo ma udapānam iti ॥

The chief said: 'Were not those beans also left over and therefore unclean?' 'No,' he replied; 'for I should not have lived, if I had not eaten them, but the drinking of water would be mere pleasure.'
