CHĀNDOGYA UPANISHAD · 5.10.5

तस्मिन् यवात्संपातम् उषित्वाथैतम् एवाध्वानं पुनर् निवर्तन्ते ।
आकाशम् ।
आकाशाद् वायुम् ।
वायुर् भूत्वा धूमो भवति ।
धूमो भूत्वाभ्रं भवति ॥

tasmin yavātsaṃpātam uṣitvāthaitam evādhvānaṃ punar nivartante ।
ākāśam ।
ākāśād vāyum ।
vāyur bhūtvā dhūmo bhavati ।
dhūmo bhūtvābhraṃ bhavati ॥

'Having dwelt there, till their (good) works are consumed, they return again that way as they came, to the ether, from the ether to the air. Then the sacrificer, having become air, becomes smoke, having become smoke, he becomes mist,
