अपां का गतिर् इति ।
असौ लोक इति होवाच ।
अमुष्य लोकस्य का गतिर् इति ।
न स्वर्गं लोकम् अतिनयेद् इति होवाच ।
स्वर्गं वयं लोकं सामाभिसंस्थापयामः ।
स्वर्गसंस्तावं हि सामेति ॥

apāṃ kā gatir iti ।
asau loka iti hovāca ।
amuṣya lokasya kā gatir iti ।
na svargaṃ lokam atinayed iti hovāca ।
svargaṃ vayaṃ lokaṃ sāmābhisaṃsthāpayāmaḥ ।
svargasaṃstāvaṃ hi sāmeti ॥

'What is the origin of water?' 'That world (heaven),' he replied. 'And what is the origin of that world?'-- He replied: 'Let no man carry the Sâman beyond the world of svarga (heaven). We place (recognise) the Sâman in the world of svarga, for the Sâman is extolled as svarga (heaven).'
