CHĀNDOGYA UPANISHAD · 2.16.1

वसन्तो हिङ्कारः ।
ग्रीष्मः प्रस्तावः ।
वर्षा उद्गीथः ।
शरत् प्रतिहारः ।
हेमन्तो निधनम् ।
एतद् वैराजम् ऋतुषु प्रोतम् ॥

vasanto hiṅkāraḥ ।
grīṣmaḥ prastāvaḥ ।
varṣā udgīthaḥ ।
śarat pratihāraḥ ।
hemanto nidhanam ।
etad vairājam ṛtuṣu protam ॥

The hiṅkâra is spring, the prastâva summer, the udgîtha the rainy season, the pratihâra autumn, the nidhana winter. That is the Vairâga Sâman, as interwoven in the seasons.
